Blue Star Mothers of America - history
On January 22, 1942 the Flint News Advertiser printed a coupon asking Mothers of servicemen to return it to the newspaper. The following February 1st, 300 mothers met in the Durant Hotel, in Flint Michigan. Captain George H. Maines, who had conceived the idea for this group, acted as the Chair of this first meeting. After receiving 1000 responses from the ad, it was decided to form a permanent organization.
On February 6th the organization was reported on Congressional record. Chapters then formed in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon, California, Iowa and Washington. In June of 1960 the organization was officially chartered by Congress.
Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. is now comprised of nearly 200 Chapters and 6,000 Members nationwide.

After 20+ years in the Hotel Industry, I shifted my focus to Military-support organizations in 2021. My only son, Cooper, had just enlisted in the Navy as a Submariner. As he left for Bootcamp, my whole heart went with him. I eagerly began researching opportunities to serve him and his fellow Sailors. I now proudly volunteer for Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. and the USO. Whether I’m sending care packages to Active-Duty Service Members or welcoming a new Recruit at Dallas MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station), I do it in honor of my son and all of our brave American Heroes. I reside in Frisco with my husband, Frank, and our two pups, Abby and Leopold.

I have three wonderful adult children and one amazing granddaughter. My son Garrett has proudly served the USMC since 2017. I love volunteering in various ways; BSM is one of my favorites as it allows me to help our wonderful past, present, and future military members. When I’m not wrangling littles or volunteering, you will find me somewhere with a book in hand.

Serving others has always been my greatest reward. When our eldest son made the courageous decision to join the United States Navy, I felt a deep calling to support him in his journey. That is when I discover Blue Star Mothers of America (BSMA). Since joining in 2021, I have found immense fulfillment in serving those who have served or are currently serving our country. It’s a privilege to stand beside fellow mothers united by love, resilience, and unwavering patriotism. When I’m not serving with BSMA, you can find me supporting our youngest son, working, leading and teaching in children’s ministry, or diligently pursing my educational goals. I thrive in the beautiful rhythm of what some might call organized chaos. It’s in that dynamic balance of service, family, faith, and growth that I find my purpose. And I wouldn’t have it any other way!

When my son, Spencer, joined the Air Crew of the Marines, I knew it was time to find an organization that supports our military on so many levels. Blue Star Mothers TX20 fits the bill. I live in Allen with my husband Bryan and children Austin, Garrett, and Allison. We are a Scouting family and also spend a lot of time with my daughter’s competitive dance team. I enjoy baking, sewing, painting, and gardening when time allows.

Volunteering is my thing! I love to support organizations that are near and dear to me. Volunteering for BSM Yellow Rose is my way of staying connected to my son, Alex and all of his buddies that are currently serving or just finished their contracts. Alex served four years in the USMC as a Machine Gunner, in early 2025 he became a Veteran and is now continuing his next adventure closer to home. I live in Lucas with my husband, Bill, and our younger son, Nicholas who is a senior in high school this year. So as a family, we are cherishing our family moments and enjoying watching our sons live out their purpose. When we aren’t at home, you will find us at the lake or on the water fishing.

I grew up an Army brat and am a widow of a USAF veteran. Currently, I’m a proud Army mom—my son Lawrence is an infantryman. I have two daughters: my oldest, Pauline, is a high school math teacher, and my middle child, Gladys, works in media production for the NBA team, the OKC Thunder, as well as for the University of Oklahoma. Sending care packages has always been my way of supporting our troops, as I come from a family with multiple generations of service.
